Over 2 years in the making, Mantis pushes the envelope in
composition, arrangement and group interplay. And in an Umphrey's
McGee first, the album offers 100% new material - a drastic change
of pace for a band whose typical modus operandi is to work out the
material live on-stage before recording studio versions.

- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- -
Tackling issues of friendship, loss, remorse, and ultimately hope, These
Green Eyes evoke a far more visceral variety of emotion on their breakthrough
disc Relapse To Recovery, boiling down five years of trials and tribulations
as a unit, culminating with the tragic and unexpected loss of a close band
friend to suicide.
The seeds of These Green Eyes were planted in 2003, when drummer Mark
Brundrett, guitarist Greg Mauro and bassist Zach Braz met in high school and,
based on their shared love of music, decided to create some together. After
months of experimenting with a revolving door of members, a basic lineup
coalesced…with the exception of a vocalist. Enter Colin Cunningham, a
friend’s brother with the heart of a poet and an impressive set of pipes.
Accepting the invitation to play a single show (at which he made up lyrics on
stage), he continued showing up for practice and the band stopped looking for
a singer.
With a solid lineup in place, the band wrote and recorded a six-song demo and
pursued a bona fide recording session with producer John Naclerio (Brand New,
My Chemical Romance, Senses Fail). With four professionally recorded songs in
hand, the band was passed up by the local labels they approached. Undaunted,
they went on tour to disseminate the EP. The band's friend JR (from Less Than
Jake) felt the record deserved a wider audience and helped them get posted on
the main page of PureVolume, where – just one year after fomenting their
lineup – they were the second most listened to artist after Fall Out Boy.
Propelled by the exposure, more fans began showing up at shows in remote
areas, fueling the boys to write and record more material for a full-length
release. After six months on the road, they returned to the studio with
Naclerio to record seven additional tracks, completing what would become
their debut, House of Glass.
Throughout 2006, These Green Eyes became road warriors, sharing bills across
the country with Fall Out Boy, New Found Glory, The Academy Is…, The Higher,
Less Than Jake, Hidden In Plain View, Silverstein and Gym Class Heroes.
In 2007, the band recorded two new sets of demos, one with old partner John
Naclerio, and one with new friend Rob Freeman (formerly of Hidden In Plain
View). The new material cemented a deal with newly-christened indie label
Blackledge Music.
With Blackledge now on board, These Green Eyes secured recording time with
uber-producer Brian McTernan (Thrice, Circa Survive, Senses Fail, The
Explosion, Hot Water Music) at his Salad Days compound in Baltimore in the
early spring of 2008. During recording, the band’s lineup shifted, resulting
in the addition of longtime friend and tour mate Jeff Krenn on guitar.
The McTernan sessions resulted in the birth of eleven driving and melodic
anthems which cohere as the triumphant record, Relapse To Recovery. Varying
from a world-weary worldview (opener "At The End") to high octane vendettas
(the scream-along chorus of "Sucker Punch") to ruminations on the loss of
friendship (the wistful closer "Time Of Our Lives"), These Green Eyes have
channeled their punk, post-hardcore, and arena rock influences into an
anthemic wall of sound that's all their own.

Brooklyn-based duo Matt and Kim return with Grand, their second
album and first in over two years. During the period in between
records the duo has toured extensively and developed a loyal and
growing fan base that eagerly awaits the release of Grand. The
band spent the last nine months recording and tweaking Grand in
between tour dates.
The result is an album that takes the band's musicianship and
songwriting to the next level and also serves as a glowing
representation of how far Matt and Kim have come since their
debut. From the anthemic opener 'Daylight' to the harmony-rich,
atmospheric ballad 'Turn This Boat Around' and demented pop of 'I
Wanna,' Grand is quite literally the sound of Matt and Kim
discovering their voice.
'All of the songs on the last album we wrote the first year we
learned how to play our instruments,' Matt acknowledged, 'but this
one is much more diverse and instead of thinking about the songs
we thought of the album as a whole, too.'

The son of a preacher and the youngest of five children, Tyrone Wells
was only allowed to listen to gospel music growing up in Spokane, WA,
although he was eventually also exposed to artists like Stevie Wonder
and James Taylor. As a teenager he moved to Fullerton, CA, to attend
college, and soon joined the Christian rock band Skypark as the lead
singer. After releasing a few records with the group, including two on
Epic, Wells decided to leave Skypark and work on his solo material. He
began performing at a local Fullerton coffeehouse, McClain's, on a
weekly basis, and soon was selling his self-released albums at these
shows. In 2003, after signing to True America, Wells issued Snapshot and
in 2005 Close: Live at McClain's came out. That same year the
singer/songwriter set about on working on his next full-length, Hold On,
revisiting songs he had been writing during the past two years. Wells'
big break came in 2006 after performing at the National Association of
Campus Activities' convention in Boston, when he was approached by
several major labels. Eventually he chose Universal Republic, which sent
Hold On to stores in early 2007.

Usually, bands take on the prefix "UK" when there's an actual need for
it — differentiating the Mission UK from the Philly soul band of the
same name, for instance — but for Pittsburgh born the Takeover UK, it
seems as if it were done out of a desire for "cool" or "cred."
Eventually pulling up stakes and taking the melange of '60s tinged
sounds coupled with late-'70s punk rock to New York, the Takeover UK
soon released a debut EP, It's All Happening on Rykodisc. Released in
the summer of 2008, the EP was merely a warm-up for the band's first
full-length effort, Running with the Wasters, due in the fall of that
same year.

Release Notes:
I wrote that Kyle Andrews’ last album, Find Love, Let Go “goes out sounding like
the best college demo you’ve never heard.” Which is hyperbole, no doubt. But if
Find Love, Let Go was the promising demo, Real Blasty is the breakthrough album.
Every element of Andrews’ songwriting has matured: the skeleton electronics from
the last album have come grown some flesh, the melodies have reached a new
height of proverbial sing-along-ness, and the previously too-complacent guitar
jangles have given way to almost-rock music. In short, Andrews is more likeable
than ever.
Kyle Andrews
Real Blasty
Rating: 7.7/10
Elephant Lady, 2008
Real Blasty isn’t perfect, but it’s hard not to be excited about music that
comes this close to firing on all cylinders. Andrews takes the fundamentals of
pop—hooks, choruses, sugary sweet piano melodies (think Hellogoodbye)—and
dresses them in quirky formulas and an obsessive, precise attention to detail
(think Spoon). And as far as details go, there’s not a misplaced bit of echo or
distorted guitar on this album.
As an initially hesitant techno beat and twittering piano notes drive “Sushi,”
Andrews piles the familiar trappings of indie pop—the handclaps, the wordless
cooing and shouting, the synthesized bridge before one last triumphant outbreak
of chorus—onto a track that renders him a cutesy, melodic foot-soldier of Moby
the Great. This is the track that sonically reimagines the Microsoft-Paint-era
Technicolor radio on the album’s cover, a perfect anthem for certain Brooklyn
dance clubs. Speaking of which, “Naked in New York,” sounds less familiar: it
opens with interplay between synthesizers, but quickly moves into newer
territory—the drums kick in and an electric guitar wail takes over as Andrews
sings “I can’t give you up/I’m not afraid of the dark/I’m not afraid of the
dark.”
As a general rule, everything on Real Blasty is designed to be bigger and better
than any of Andrew’s back catalog. We only get two ballads, the underwhelming
“Cut and Paste” and the absurdly sentimental album closer “Bus” (lyrics: “Take
my love/It’s all I am/It’s all I have to give/It’s all I have.”) The rest is all
energetic pop, drenched in kicking drum beats, keyboards, and synthesizer and
accented with just about anything else Kyle can pull out of his computer. “Blow
it Out,” while clearly within the realms of a pop song, shows that Andrews could
probably make a pretty decent dance album.
“I Wanted to Paint a Rainbow”—over five minutes long and perhaps the best song
in the lineup—pulses with all the adrenaline of a pent up racehorse before
finally finding release in a perfect two-minute piano outro that shows us
Andrews depth and vocal range. “It didn’t take much to let us down/Just one
touch pushed us underground/No it didn’t take much/Turn me inside out/Start a
flood with my mouth/But I could never say enough/Oh no, what have I done?”
Andrews sings, eulogizing all the stupid mistakes every guy has ever made.
All of this expansion of sound comes at a predictable price: unlike on his last
EP, Andrews sounds more like your average, polished indie-pop artist, even if
his voice is still a little rough for the mainstream. But as if to show he’s no
sellout Real Blasty comes closer than ever to unleashing Andrews’ closeted
rocker. “Wavering Between the Real and the Abstract”, for example, structurally
follows Radiohead’s “Bodysnatchers,” down to the mid-song acoustic guitar riff
and the meltdown ending. (It also features the album’s most Radiohead worthy
lines: “But I feel indifferent/I guess that’s something/I’ll fade away.”)
Overall, it’s difficult to find much to criticize here. Real Blasty could have
been whittled down to nine or ten songs and be a better album for it. But this
is about as good as harmless, feel-good pop gets.

„Into The
Münster, 2008 erschien ihr erstes Album „No Sleep Until Ostkreuz“.
„Into The Wild“ finden wir auf „Matterhorn“ „The Body of Lord Francis
Douglas“.
„Matterhorn“
klingt also wie etwas, das raus musste. Aber kommt hier wieder die
Selbsttherapie ins Spiel?
Ghost of Tom Joad machen diese Musik

Morrissey will release "Years of Refusal" in the US February 17, 2009
and UK February 16, 2009 on Attack/Lost Highway. "Years of Refusal" will
be Morrissey's first studio album since 2006's UK #1 "Ringleader of the
Tormentors". In February, Morrissey will begin the US leg of his world
tour that includes rare intimate club dates.

The late Jerry Finn, who previously worked on 2004's critical and
commercial smash "You Are the Quarry", produced "Years of Refusal" which
is the last album he worked on. The single "I'm Throwing My Arms Around
Paris", which Morrissey debuted during his sold out 2007 world tour,
will precede the album. Long time band members Boz Boorer, Jesse Tobias,
Matt Walker, and Solomon Walker play on the album, which also features a
contribution from Jeff Beck on the track "Black Cloud".

Morrissey is often recognized as the most important British musician of
his generation. The New York Times recently stated, "Morrissey isn't
just any singer: he has become one of the defining rock stars of the
past few decades by virtue of his grand voice, his grander songs, and
his charming habit of playing with melodrama". His influence is felt
worldwide through the countless artists that cite him as their primary
inspiration. "Years of Refusal" is a masterful work that finds Morrissey
and the band at their best with a muscular sound and the inimitable
voice and lyrics of a legend.

Enjoy..

Release Notes:
The Ting Tings -- a scrappy, dance-oriented indie pop duo
consisting of singer/guitarist Katie White and drummer
Jules De Martino -- formed in the Salford district of
Manchester, England, in 2006. Quickly signed to the local
indie label Switchflicker Records, the Ting Tings released
their debut single, "That's Not My Name," in the spring of
2007. Following the limited-edition, tour-only single
"Fruit Machine," the Ting Tings signed to major label
Columbia Records later that year. The flip side of the
Switchflicker single, "Great DJ," was released as the
duo's debut major-label single in March 2008, followed by
the reissue of "That's Not My Name" with a new exclusive
B-side remix. "That's Not My Name" rose to the top of the
U.K. charts in May 2008, the same month that the duo's
debut album, We Started Nothing, appeared.

Keep the Babies Warm is the new album from the Service Industry and follows
quickly on the heels of their February 2008 release Limited Coverage, arguably
the finest piece of Bolshevik Psychedelia this country has ever produced. The
Service Industry was formed in 2006 and includes current and former members of
the Wannabes, Cher U.K., the Rockland Eagles, Dumptruck and Spoon. The bands
music and arcane ideology are a direct reflection of their collective brushes
with fame cast against the unlikely proposition of receiving a fair wage for
doing what they love to do the way they want to do it in the Live Music Capitol
of the World. The band seeks to convert musical consumers of all stripes as the
well-heeled, slick power-pop of this new set niftily conceals the bands
philosophical message and slyly indoctrinates new adherents to the cause. Keep
the Babies Warm delivers adamant everyman anthems with style, charisma and
chutzpah and is recommended listening for fans of Cheap Trick, Cracker, Nick
Lowe and the Pixies.

On 2nd March 2009 Red Light Company release their spectacular
debut album 'Fine Fascination' through Lavolta Records. RLC
are multi-national group of nomadic musicians recruited by
front man Richard Frenneaux in 2007, with one objective in
mind- to make a huge record. 'Fine Fascination' is
provocative, it explores the profundity and seduction of
relationships, addiction and friendship by contrasting dark
lyricism with euphoric instrumentals. Produced by Adrian
Bushby (U2, Placebo, Foo Fighters) the sound is arena rock -
grandiose, relentless and intense. Previous singles from the
album include the stellar 'Scheme Eugene' (single of the week
in The Sun and B-listed at Radio 1 and MTV) and Arts & Crafts
(also voted Zane Lowe's æhottest record in the world' on Radio
1) confirming RLC as one of the few new breakthrough guitar
bands to be championed by the station at such an early stage
in their career. 2008 saw the band tour relentlessly,
supporting The Pigeon Detectives, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors and
Glasvegas as well as headlining the BBC Electric proms 'Hot
and New' night.
With an impressive array of profile pieces in 2009Æs æones to
watch,Æ features the hype machine is turning fast in their
favour. If thereÆs one Fine Fascination to have in 2009 it has
to be Red Light Company.

This is Leave`s third and, sadly, last album due the sudden and tragic death of
Lead Singer/Guitaritst Mike Murphy - fortunately for us, the surviving members
finished off their finest piece of work and birthed into the world, breathing
life into a project that could have been moribund and depressing: it is not.
This Chicago band plays that classic Illinois styled power pop with an earthy
Mid-Western heart. They sounds like late 80s REM, Gin Blossoms mixed with the
tasteful influences of The Beatles and ELO. "In fact, there`s nothing futuristic
about their tight harmonies, driving rhythms and thoroughly satisfying
power-pop, but as the aforementioned power-pop scene proves, catchy tunes never
go out of style."-- Jim DeRogatis Chicago Sun-Times.

Release Notes:
“The songs on the album — they're our lives, our relationships, our friendships
within the band. They're our pursuit of trying to figure out life, who we are,
who God is, and how it all makes sense,” Chuck says. “It’s all of that put to
music.”
Indeed the songs on Everything Burns wrestle with the big questions. “New
Solution” is about hoping for change and “a different way of doing things
because how things are now just doesn’t work,” Chuck says. “Time Goes By”
reflects a sense of restlessness. “We all go through those times when we wish we
were in a different place or that life looked a bit different — when you’re just
kind of stuck,” Pap says. “Still Young” insists that as long as you’re alive,
you still have a chance to make a difference, Pap says. Finally, there’s
“Everything Burns,” which is the album’s title track and sums up SHIROCK’s
mission statement. “It’s this idea that our time is so valuable and limited...we
want to use is wisely,” Chuck says. “So much around us is temporary. We want to
live for the things that really matter…like relationships, pouring time and
resources into people, and really making a difference. Everything else just
burns.”
SHIROCK don’t just sing about making a difference, they are actually making it
happen. They recently launched the non-profit organization Everything Burns as a
way to encourage their fans to help those in need. “People are passionate right
now about wanting to do something to effect change,” Pap says, “but sometimes
it’s hard to know how to get involved. This is a way for us to connect people we
meet at shows with people in their area trying to make a difference.” In
February 2009, SHIROCK will launch the “Everything Burns Tour,” which will stop
in 14 major cities and partner with local charities working to solve issues of
homelessness and poverty in their area. All income from the tour will go
directly to charity.
SHIROCK’s other plans for 2009 include expanding their Nashville-based fashion
line, Irock Clothing, which Chuck and Pap launched in 2008 as a creative outlet
and means to develop their brand. “So much of the band merchandise we see
doesn’t really have the right fit or feel,” Chuck says. “We wanted to make
T-shirts that you would want to wear even if you didn’t know the music. We’ve
always been interested in fashion and wearing clothes that represent a person’s
individuality and uniqueness.” The line, which features shirts, jackets, bags,
and accessories, has been carried in stores regionally, and has sold out at
every boutique that carried it.
And of course 2009 will see the February release of Everything Burns, which
SHIROCK recorded at Nashville’s Ocean Way studio with Jay Ruston. Five songs
have been available since March 2008, when the EP 5 was released digitally on
iTunes. In addition, the band sold more than 3,000 copies over seven months on
the road, due in no small part to the strong fanbase SHIROCK has built through
grassroots touring (more than 150 shows in the eastern U.S. in 2008) and
marketing. Five songs from Everything Burns have also been featured on MTV’s The
Hills among other placements on Television - including NBC’s ER.
Getting their songs heard is all part of SHIROCK’s grand plan to make a
difference. “So much music these days is just noise,” Chuck says. “It might be
great-sounding noise, but it's still noise. It’s not communicating something
real that makes you feel something. For us it’s about so much more than
entertainment. We strive to make you feel something in everything we do.”

Release Notes:
For fans of: my bloody valentine, the smiths, the jesus and
mary chain, the vivian girls, c86. meet the pains of being
pure at heart, a four-piece from the same new york scene as
the vivian girls and crystal stilts who play dreamy, noisy pop
with boy / girl vocals, blissful melodies and blistering
drums. original members peggy, kip and alex came together
through a shared love of the pastels, the ramones, american
indie noisepop legends black tambourine and 'sunny sundae
smile' - era my bloody valentine.
Now joined by drummer kurt, the pains proudly bring you their
self-titled debut album and the most infectious slice of pop
perfection you will hear all year, a distillation of all the
great noise-pop precedents - early mbv, house of love, jamc -
but with the incredible exuberance and energy that the pains
bring to every song, the excitement of youth just rushing
forth and sweeping the listener along. over ten tracks the
pains demonstrate an absolute mastery of noise / jangle pop,
their songs being a perfect distillation of classic pop melody
and thrilling, rushing guitar noise that have taste-making
blogs across the planet tripping over themselves in search of
superlatives. like their american peers black kids and vampire
weekend, the pains have a happy knack of taking the classic
sounds of the past and at once making them invigorating and
fresh, a knack sure to propel them to an audience beyond the
blogs and away from the scenester crowd that made their uk
tour dates crushed, sweaty and sold-out through word-of-mouth
alone. already dance-floor faves in london clubs such as twee
as fuck and how does it feel to be loved, and featured on our
own 'counter culture' album for 2008, the pains' debut will be
the sound of 2009, rocking the discos and blasting from ipods.
the pains are crafting noise pop gems that are timeless but
completely now, and their debut album serves notice of an
exhilarating new talent. on fortuna pop.
