Daredevil hat in letzter Zeit sehr viel durchmachen müssen, zunächst wurde er geoutet („The Murdock Papers“) und hinter Gitter gebracht („The Devil Inside and Out – Vol.1), dann ist er undercover zur Aufklärung einiger Hintergründe nach Europa geflüchtet („The Devil Inside and Out – Vol. 2), um sich schließlich nach New York zurückgekehrt mit einer angewachsenen Bandenkriminalität und Korruption konfrontiert zu sehen („Hell to Pay – Vol. 1) und nicht verhindern zu können, dass seine Frau Milla einem Anschlag zum Opfer fällt.


An seiner verwundbarsten Stelle getroffen, versucht er nun in „Hell to Pay – Vol. 2“, seine durch eine Psychodroge in den Wahnsinn getriebenen Frau und damit sein bescheidenes privates Glück zu retten, wobei ihm schließlich jedes Mittel bis hin zur Folter recht ist. … Brubaker und Lark haben in diesem Comicband (#100-105) sozusagen ein Monster von der Leine gelassen, denn Daredevil hat sich weder beruflich, als Anwalt Matt Murdock, noch als (nächtlicher) Kämpfer für Gerechtigkeit im Griff. … Der Band endet mit einer Atempause in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Übermaß an Gegnern (Whracker, Montana, Razor Fist, Mr. Fear, The Hood) doch ohne privates Glück für den tragischen Helden.


Das Besondere an „Hell to Pay – Vol. 2“ sind die herausragenden Grafiken: um die 100. Ausgabe zu feiern, gab es „Gastauftritte“ vieler renommierter Zeichner, John Romita Sr. & Al Milgrom (Seiten 15-16), Gene Colan (Seiten 18-20), Bill Sienkiewicz (Seiten 21-22), Alex Maleev (Seiten 23-25) und Lee Bermejo (Seiten 27-29). Es ist ein optischer Genuss, die verschiedenen Zeichenstile in einer sehr gut konstruierten Story harmonisch vereint zu sehen. Überhaupt sind, wie das beeindruckende Cover verrät, die neueren Grafiken von einer vorher noch nie dagewesenen Detailgenauigkeit und Schärfe.

Ex Machina launched in 2004 as part of DC Comics' Wildstorm imprint. Vaughan has stated that the series will run for fifty issues.[1][2] The fiftieth and final issue was released on August 18, 2010.
The title of the comic comes from the Latin phrase 'deus ex machina', and is also a reference to Hundred's superhero persona, the Great Machine, in that he is now an 'ex-Machine'. In the first issue, Mitchell explains that he chose the name "Great Machine" based on a quote about society by Thomas Jefferson. Accordingly, one of the series' recurring themes is the tendency of citizens to become overly reliant on their government and constantly expect it to save them.
The series details the life of Mitchell Hundred (also known as The Great Machine), the world's first and only superhero, who, in the wake of his actions on 9/11, is elected Mayor of New York City. The story is set during Hundred's term in office, and interwoven with flashbacks to his past as the Great Machine. Through this, the series explores both the political situations Hundred finds himself in, and the mysteries surrounding his superpowers.

The story opens in flashback, ten years before the (at the time) current continuity of the Green Lantern comic books, showing an extraterrestrial Barin Char, the Green Lantern of Sector 1522, dying when a xenomorph bursts from his chest. Hal Jordan (who at the time of the series’ publication, had long been dead) is then summoned by the Guardians of the Universe to rendezvous with fellow Green Lanterns Kilowog, Katma Tui, Tomar Re, The Green Man and Salakk on the planet Tirama in Sector 1522. The six Green Lanterns are informed of the disappearance of Barin Char, and proceed to the border world where he is believed to have disappeared. Tracing the signal from Char’s displaced power ring, they enter a cavern inside a mountainous butte, where they discover Char’s corpse, before being attacked by a swarm of xenomorphs. Jordan decides that rather than exterminate an alien species – particularly since the xenomorphs appear to be only the interstellar equivalent of sharks; the perfect killing machine without actually being evil – they would transport the xenomorphs to the sentient Green Lantern planet Mogo, where they can not harm anyone.
A decade later, the Signet Dawn, a Coluian long-range ore transport vessel, crashes onto the planet. Five extraterrestrials — the Xudarian Tomar-Dar, Brik, Ash, M’Hdahna and the aforementioned Salaak — appear on Earth in the apartment of Kyle Rayner, who at the time, is the Green Lantern of Earth, and the only Green Lantern in existence. These five are either former Green Lanterns, or were intended to become Green Lanterns at the time of Parallax’s destruction of the Green Lantern Corps, and they inform Rayner of the Signet Dawn’s crash on Mogo. The six then journey to Mogo to rescue the ship’s crew. Inside the hulk of the ship, they encounter Crowe, the ship’s first officer, who tells Rayner that after the crash, the aliens carried off the other 37 crew members, but left her for some reason. Crowe leads Rayner and the others deeper into the ship, where the xenomorphs attack them, taking Rayner’s companions captive, leaving only him, Crowe and Salaak. When Rayner tries to grab Tomar as he is pulled down a shaft, his power ring slips off his finger and falls down the shaft.

Die Hard: Year One has to be one of the strangest licensed comics I've ever read. Usually with these projects it's just a simple question of whether the creative team make proper use of the characters and setting. Either you have the usual piece of cheap drivel or something that does justice to the source material. Die Hard is a far tougher nut to crack. Most of the time Year One #1 doesn't feel anything like a Die Hard story. That should be enough to condemn the whole project, but it deserves a closer inspection than that.

On a basic level, Die Hard: Year One does exactly what you would expect of it. It flashes back to the early days of John McClane's career as an NYPD cop. We see McClane as a younger, more idealistic man. We start to see the events that will lead to the same marriage that hangs by a thread in the first movie. But beyond that, writer Howard Chaykin has a far more ambitious crime saga in mind that, surprisingly, doesn't feature McClane much at all.

Investigating a series of murders of Gotham's homeless, the victims' throats having been slashed, Batman discovers that the murders are being committed by a family of vampires led by Dracula himself, still "alive" and well. With the aid of a rogue vampire called Tanya—who was once a member of Dracula's brood until the sight of an innocent child drove her to flee from him, creating a "blood substitute" to spare her from the cycle of death and murder—Batman, himself bitten by a vampire- Tanya herself, who seeks his aid in defeating Dracula as all Vampires created by Dracula are powerless against his abilities and mental powers, is able to acquire the strength necessary to stand against Dracula's minions while still retaining his humanity. Determined to destroy Dracula's minions, Batman lured them into the Batcave, where Tanya and her followers kept them occupied until Batman detonates multiple explosive charges, destroying Wayne Manor and exposing the cave to sunlight, destroying all the vampires within it. Using his new bat-like wings, Batman flies to confront Dracula, eventually impaling the vampire lord on a tree that has been destroyed by lightning, but at the cost of the last of his humanity as Dracula drains the last of his blood. However, after his "will" has been read by Alfred, Batman assures his old friend that he has nothing to fear; Bruce Wayne may be gone, but the Batman, thanks to his vampiric powers, will now go on forever.
