DiRT 3 ist der dritte Ableger der Rennspiel-Reihe DiRT, die an die bekannte Colin McRae-Reihe angelehnt ist. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger wird es mehr Rallye-Fahrten geben, was genau das ist, was sich die Fans am meisten wünschten. Insgesamt 60 Prozent Rallye sind in DiRT 3 enthalten. Neu sind, und das gab es in der DiRT-Reihe noch nicht, schneebedeckte Rennstrecken. Diese werden sich natürlich völlig anders fahren lassen, selbst eisige Untergrunde treten hin und wieder auf.
Beim Fuhrpark hat sich nicht ganz so viel getan, unter anderem sind die 2010er Fahrzeuge Ford Focus RS WRC und der Citroen C4 WRC sowie erstmalig in einem Videospiel überhaupt auch der Ford Fiesta RS WRC mit dabei. Zusätzlich wird es 50 weitere lizenzierte Fahrzeuge geben, die den Motorsport in den letzten Jahren prägten und in 15 unterschiedliche Klassen unterteilt sind.
