Ist es aber nicht. Selbst Hans Rey geht in einer Sequenz auf dem Sentiero della Pace über den Lenker.

Schymik´s Video präsentiert die Trails am See in seiner gesamten Bandbreite- von fast senkrechten Steilhängen an der Grenze des Fahrbaren bis zur legendären Ponalestrasse. Bei einigen Szenen denkt man:"Ich käme dort nie heil runter." Andere Szenen fährt man im Geiste mit.
Dramaturgisch wohltuend sind die stillen Landschaftaufnahmen, die keiner Musik bedürfen, oder die Interviews mit den Akteuren. Schymik möchte es eben nicht nur „krachen lassen“. Er weiß, wie innere Bilder und Sehnsüchte entstehen. Vom Monte Baldo auf den Gardasee blicken, das vergisst man nicht. Aber das ist vielleicht Geschmackssache.
Filme wie der „Trailhunter Gardasee“ gibt es nicht als kommerzialisierte Massenware, die Dank eines gut gefüllten Marketingbudgets mit einem Schlag bekannt sind. Higher Learning with John Cowan is a dirt jump how to video. It aims to teach people the basics of jumping your bike and how to pull of those cool tricks that some show-off is always doing at the local dirt jumps. With this DVD you could be that show-off.
It starts out at the bare basics like bike setup and how to do a basic jump. Then progresses on to bigger jumps and explains the more complicated tricks like No Handers and X-Ups and finsihes up with Indian Airs and 360’s.
There’s not much to fault with the demonstration. Everything is explained clearly and John shows how you can step up to each trick. This way your first attempt at a Superman wont result in you either pulling off the trick or ending up on your arse.
Some of the explanations for the harder tricks seem a little vague. However I think this is due to John stripping the tricks back to their bare basics which makes them seem so simple.
So what about the riding in it? Well you get a total of 2 riders, John Cowan and some little kid the helps to show the basics of jumping. It’s not a jump video you can just sit down and watch but it was never meant to be. Although the snippets of riding shown are really good and some of the trails ridden could only be described as beautiful.
Higher Learning would be good for all the younger riders keen to learn how to jump. John even said the idea from the video came from all the kids always asking him how he pulled that Superman or 360. For an experienced jumper this DVD wouldn’t give much insight. Although if you want to know how to pull of some of those more difficult tricks that you haven’t been able to nail then it’s probably worth checking out.

Brian Lopes springt einen Megatable in einer Kiesbaggerei. Oft genug wird man aber nach dem Öffnen der Verpackung (in diesem Fall wäre es das Anschauen des Videos) enttäuscht. Nicht aber bei ChainSmoke 2. Phatte Musik, phatte Action pur. Anders als bei den Videos in denen nur stumpfsinniges Kantenrunterdroppen den Inhalt bestimmt spiegelt ChainSmoke 2 die Seele der Mountainbiker wieder. Downhillaction pur, abwechslungsreiche XC-Aktion (unglaublich, aber wahr) und geile Streetaction machen Laune auf mehr. Alleine der Anfang ist schon sehr edel. Das Intro zeigt einen Pickup mit einem Intense auf der Ladefläche der durch Wüste brettert...was für ein Auto, was für ein Fahrstil...Was so genial anfängt darf natürlich nicht im Sande verlaufen...
So gesehen, so gedacht, so gemacht. Hochkarätige Fahrer vermitteln das was wir alle beim Biken haben. Spass pur! Vom fast heimischen Singletrail bis hin zu Sprüngen über einen fahrenden Zug ist alles dabei. Aufgelockert wird das ganze Video durch geniale Landschaftseinblendungen oder auch schon mal durch Pickup-Action. Und das ganze immer mit phatter Mucke. Während der etwa 40 Minuten Laufzeit wird man selber zunehmend unruhiger. Chain Smoke 2 ist eines von den Videos, bei denen man nach dem anschauen unbedingt selber aufs Bike muss.
